Testing
The prostate is a gland producing seminal fluid that nourishes and helps transport sperm. Prostate cancer is a very common cancer among men, so testing is highly recommended. PSA is a substance produced by the prostate gland.
Sample requirement
A blood sample is required to perform the test. It is a simple process with only a momentary slight pain from the needle stick.
Method of test used
A Prostate-Specific Antigen Blood Test is used to determine the amount of PSA that may indicate prostate infection / cancer.
Result parameters
PSA levels
Less than 4(ng/mL) > Low risk (15% chance of prostate-cancer)
From 4-10 > Some risk (25% chance)
Greater than 10 > Extremely high risk (67% chance)
